Three years ago our region’s collaboration and history of success with shared electronic medical records was recognized when the Beacon Community of the Inland Northwest (BCIN) was named one of 17 communities across the country by the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services for a federallyfunded grant project to highlight the value of health information technology in improving health outcomes. Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, BCIN has worked closely with community hospitals and clinics to increase care coordination and disease management for patients with type 2 diabetes in rural and urban communities across eastern Washington and northern Idaho.
As with any grant, the BCIN federal funding is coming to an end. However, INHS is committed to support the BCIN technology infrastructure through the end of 2014 to measure the clinical outcomes related to the grant and advise the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology on lessons learned. Please continue to contact our INHS Service Desk at (509) 474-3366 or email@example.com for support you need related to the BCIN technology.
